This shawl is hand embroidered in the Papier Machie technique from Kashmir, India. A village artisan community works with this technique, passing it down the generations. Artisans work out the floral and leaf motifs in satin stitch to resemble the painting style on Papier Machie objects. Labonie celebrates their pride and perseverance to nurture their heritage in a technology-driven world. Each shawl has its karigar’s (artisan) unique touch – a variation more than an imperfection.
